The dollar index is slightly lower against a basket of major currencies after US economic data came in shy of expectations and another missile test by North Korea over the weekend underpinned the perceived safe-haven yen.

Asian markets were mixed despite concerns over trade protectionism during the G7 meeting in Italy and North Korea's latest missile launch at the weekend.

The CBOE Volatility index dropped 7.6 percent to 9.77, its lowest since 1993 as investors took comfort from Macron's victory, as well as from strong quarterly reports in recent weeks.

A declining VIX typically indicates a bullish outlook for stocks, but the extreme lows the index has touched are sounding caution for some stock investors.

TOP 20 STOCKS WHICH FUND MANAGERS DUMPED IN MARCH QUARTERS | STOCK NEWS REPORT 22 APRIL 2017.

Mutual funds, which poured in over Rs 2,000 crore in Indian equity markets in March, pared their positions or made an exit in stocks such as Coal India, Divi’s Laboratories, Tech Mahindra, TCS and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories which slipped up to 20 percent so far in the year.

After a lacklustre 2016, 2017 has been nothing short of a blockbuster year for investors with benchmark indices hitting fresh record highs in April. The S&P BSE Sensex and Nifty rose 11 percent and 12 percent respectively.

The large part of the rally was driven by abundance liquidity from both global as well as domestic investors who poured in close to Rs 30K crore in January-March period.

Stocks, which mutual funds dropped in March based on market value, include names like Axis Bank, Divi’s Laboratories, Tech Mahindra, Coal India, Bharti Airtel, TCS, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, JSW Steel, Ashok Leyland, BHEL, Orient Cement, Info Edge, Equitas Holdings, Sun Pharma etc. among others, said an IDBI Capital report.

This could be a sign of cautions for investors. Either mutual funds would have booked profits in these stocks or the fundamentals does not support the current valuation. In either case, it is a sign of caution for investors. Most of the stocks mentioned in the list have given negative return so far in the year.

MONDAY COULD BE A MAKE OR BREAK FOR NIFTY; TODAY STOCK UPDATE 14 APRIL 2017.

After days of the sideways movement, Nifty gave first sign of feebleness after it closed below the three-digit Gann number of 9,160 for the first time since 29th March 2017.
However, a confirmation of a close below the same is required to ensure a change in orbit towards 9,010. Meanwhile, Bank Nifty is acting like a lone warrior after posting a weekly rally of 1.1 percent as it continues to trade above the four-digit Gann support of 21,400.
Recent out performance of Bank Nifty has restricted the decline in the markets. It certainly holds the key in deciding the next leg of the journey of the index.
Post the five weeks of consolidation at the top and lack of momentum to carry the index past 9,300 suggests that market is missing the much-required ammunition.
By the end of Monday’s session, the index will give a clear signal whether the markets are sustaining at current levels or not.
